Among the festivals the Paro and Thimphu festivals are very popular but the more interesting are the smaller festivals that are held in remote areas. Where you will get more chances to interact with the local people.  These festivals are held in homage to Guru Rimpoche who was great saint in Bhutan and also he is the one who brought Buddhism to Bhutan in 746 A.D. These festivals are hosted in the 10th day of the month in the Bhutanese calendar. These festivals are mainly for the protection from all the misfortune and to drive away evil. The main two great saints are Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and Pema Lingpa who are founder of the most of the dances in festivals.
